The NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) is recognised by employers and professional organisations around the world.
It is rated at SCQF Level 6 (equivalent to RQF Level 3) and provides eligibility for membership in the following professional bodies:

  • IOSH – Institution of Occupational Safety and Health
  • IIRSM – International Institute of Risk and Safety Management
  • SAIOSH – South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health
  • INSHPO – International Network of Safety and Health Practitioner Organisations
  • BCSP – Board of Certified Safety Professionals
  • BCRSP – Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals
  • CSCS – Construction Skills Certification Scheme (UK)

Module IG1: Management of Health and Safety

Duration: 5 days
Element 1. Why should we manage workplace health and safety

Element 2. How health and safety management systems work and what they look like

Element 3. Managing risk – understanding people and processes

Element 4. Health and safety monitoring and measuring

 

Module IG2: Risk Assessment (Practical Assignment)

Duration: 5 days
Element 5. Physical and psychological health

Element 6. Musculoskeletal health

Element 7. Chemical and biological agents

Element 8. General workplace issues

Element 9. Work equipment

Element 10. Fire

Element 11. Electricity

The NEBOSH IGC includes two units of assessment:

IG1 – Management of Health and Safety

  • Assessed via an Open Book Examination (OBE)
  • Learners are given up to 24 hours to complete and submit their assignment online
  • Use of reference materials, notes, and regulations is allowed during the exam

 

IG2 – Risk Assessment

  • A practical assignment: learners conduct a workplace risk assessment and complete a standardised form
  • Submission deadline is within 14 calendar days after completing IG1
     

    Both units can be re-sat an unlimited number of times within 5 years

    Learners may re-sit IG1 to improve their grade

    If the re-sit result is lower than the original, the higher grade will be retained

  • Results are released within 50 working days after submission
  • You must pass both units (IG1 and IG2) to receive the full qualification
  • After passing both units, the certificate is issued within 1 month

 

IG1 Result Scale:

  • Distinction: 75+
  • Credit: 65–74
  • Pass: 45–64
  • Refer: 0–44
